In alchemical terms, Salt is one of the three components (“Tria Prima” or three primes), with Mercury and Sulphur, that make up base matter.

Salt is analogous to the physical matter of the body; its earthly elements. Alchemical salt is analogous to the Ashlar of the Masons.
